Hannah + Byron | Grafton Wedding

Hannah and Byron were family friends growing up - they had known each other forever - but it wasn't until Grafton's infamous Santa Pub Crawl in 2014 that Hannah and Byron realised there was something more.

A few messages, a few dates and a chicken schnitty at the Village Green later, Hannah and Byron knew that what they had found was special and real.

Byron proposed to Hannah on Christmas Eve in 2021 - seven years after he had first messaged Hannah. Hannah had been busy rushing around to pack the car and head to Grafton for the night, and Byron had worked her up until she was "pretty aggro." He called out to her from the kitchen, where he proposed on bent knee with a beautiful ring. Hannah could barely believe it. The day had finally come!

Let's take a look behind the scenes at Hannah and Byron's dreamy Jacaranda wedding at the Clarence Valley Jockey Club in Grafton.

The vision

Shortly after getting engaged, Hannah and Byron were close contacts of a COVID case and had to self-isolate for seven days. It was during this time, they decided to reach out to key vendors for their wedding.

"Our main priority was securing a celebrant, caterer, venue, band, photographer and videographer."

Once they had pencilled their non-negotiables, they moved ahead with planning some of the finer details. Throughout the whole process, their main focus was that the day was all about celebrating their love and commitment their way.

Having been to a few weddings before and chatting with their family and friends who had planned their dream day, Hannah and Byron spoke openly with each other about what they liked and didn't like, and their style was unique to them.

"We just went with what we personally liked and made it come together."

Their main priority was to be married - rain, hail or shine.

The wedding

Hannah and Byron loved absolutely everything about their wedding day. As everyone told them, it went by so quickly, but they loved savouring each moment together and seeing all of their family and friends there in the one place, celebrating, laughing and enjoying themselves.

"We loved every moment of our wedding, even though we had to change our ceremony location due to the weather."

They particularly loved the ceremony and the speeches - and hearing all the beautiful things people said or remembered about them as individuals and as a couple was so special.

The honeymoon

Hannah and Byron honeymooned at the luxurious couples-only Crystal Creek Rainforest Retreat on the far North Coast.

"After the hype of the wedding, it was the perfect way to just be with each other and savour getting married."

The takeaways

Many things have stayed the same for Hannah and Byron after getting married, but welcoming their beautiful daughter and becoming their own little family has been the most special. They love calling each other "husband" and "wife," and they still feel giddy when they think about their wedding day.

"Our love is going strong, and we have so many things to look forward to for our future."

For any couples getting married, Hannah and Byron's main piece of advice is not to sweat the small stuff. When wedding planning takes over your whole life, don't be afraid to take a breather, and try to keep it as fun as possible.

" Things don't always go exactly as you plan, but it is totally okay, because on the day, you really don't mind. Enjoy the process and remember your day is all about you, not everyone else."
